Como dije hace tiempo, raro es el día en que no aparece en prensa alguna noticia sobre investigaciones o hallazgos en el misterioso cerebro. Tener optimismo respecto a lo nuestro no es, por tanto, una simple postura alentadora, sino una actitud lógica.

Sinceramente, en mi opinión (o mejor dicho, desde mi intuición), creo que, así como la solución definitiva para los acúfenos es probable que se retrase cuatro o cinco años, estoy plenamente convencido de que en el medio plazo irán apareciendo diferentes paliativos que, al menos, nos ayudarán a capear el temporal.
No es poco lo que digo, si tenemos en cuenta que la mayoría de los afectados sufren una cierta "desesperación" ante la incapacidad actual de la medicina para curarlos. Así por tanto, cuando empiece a funcionar algún tipo de medicamento enseguida remontarán psicológicamente y sus acúfenos pasarán a ser una simple molestia fácilmente llevadera.

Sí, evidentemente en estos 4 años parece que ha aprendido más de acúfenos que en toda la historia anterior. Y si se quiere solucionar un conflicto de manera eficaz, primero hay que entender el conflicto. Y creo que ya se sabe donde reside, por lo que las investigaciones irán por buen destino. Y somos un mercado enorme, y en aumento...
Cómo "apenas" llevo tres meses con mi acúfeno bautizado, tras todas las pruebas, como idiopático, no sé que terapia de fondo comenzar. De momento las recomendaciones de OTIN, a saber, GABA, triptófanos, glicina, melatonina, y audiovit. Voy a estar una temproada sin probar alcohol (que quizás me ayude, con lo que me gusta el vino y la cerveza...). Ah, y comenzando acupuntura. Y el deporte de toda la vida.
¿Alguna recomedación o espero a ver si me habitúo de manera natural? Pero días cómo hoy, me parece imposible creer que un día lo escuchare sin que me genere malestar.

Sé que no tiene nada que ver con los acúfenos, ni la pérdida auditiva. Pero desde luego están logrando cosas increíbles. Si encontraran el área del cerebro encargada del acúfeno y lograran desconectarla...

The Company announced that it completed a $3.39 Million funding round this summer, which will enable the Company to complete 3 additional clinical trials using their neurostimulation system to treat both stroke patients and tinnitus patients and continue development of its wireless pain platform. This round of investment was led by Green Park & Golf Ventures, a Texas based healthcare investment firm. The round also included angel investors and the UT Horizon Fund.

The American Tinnitus Association estimates that as many as 2 million Americans currently suffer from severe debilitating tinnitus. Currently 850,000 Veterans suffer from tinnitus and the Veterans Administration is spending over $1.5 Billion annually in disability payments.
The Serenity® System is a neurostimulation based system with a small implanted battery and wires that internally connect to the vagus nerve in the neck. As part of the therapy, the patient wears headphones and every time the system plays a tone, it also automatically delivers a small amount of neurostimulation to the patient's vagus nerve. This paired tone-stimulation treatment method is based on years of neuroscience research published in high impact journals. Lo bueno es que todos nos vamos convenciendo de que una solución a nuestro problema, aunque no sea la curación total, se va acercando. Y eso es esperanza y la esperanza es optimismo y el optimismo es recuperar el ánimo.
